Hi im after a little help as i'm unsure to the correct tyre pressures...
on my defender i have disco es wheels with BF Goodrich AT tyres, on the side wall it says max load 80 psi?

What pressure would you be tempted to put in?
Surley the max load is for when your towing or the vehical is full loaded...

At a bit of a loss please heeeeeeelp.... :doh:
 
max load is max before it explodes!!! - nothing to do with on road tyre pressures.
the correct pressures should be in yo handbook - or use th echalk method to determine what is correct for your motor.
 
The figure you are looking at is the maximum the tyre is designed to take, the recomended pressure for the vehicle is stated by LR and takes into account the vehicle weight, load carried, tyre size etc and is nothing like as high as that figure. You must have an owners manual, workshop manual or something? Any of these will give you the recomened tyre pressures. What model is it, what size are the tyres, what sort of load do you carry?

My 300TDi 90 soft-top is fitted with OE spec 265/75x16 BFG AT's and rarely carries anything other than a single occupant and no load. The handbook states 28PSi (F) and 35PSi (R) but for my vehicle these are just too high with only the centre of the tread touching the tarmac, extensive experimentation & experience has proved that 25PSi is the ideal pressure for my vehicle however yours may well differ.
 
Its a Defender TD5 with no more then myself and a passenger ever in it at one time....
Wont it make a difference to what pressure goes in being on discovery wheels??
Mines on the BFG AT same as yours Litch
 
I cant seem to get my head around putting less in the front tyres and more in the rear surley the front gets most of the weight? therefore needing a slightly more pressure???

90 or 110?

My 300TDi owners handbook doesn't give pressures for 265/75x16 on a 110 as at that time that size tyre was not a possible fitment due to the unavailability of a suitable 7-inch wide rim. When the Boost alloy came along it allowed the 265/75x16 to be fitted to the 110.
When a LR is carrying a load (including rear passengers) it will be over the rear wheels so the weight on the rears will be greater than that on the front. Find out the LR recomended figures and use them as a starting point (as already stated, the chalk test is a good method). For me I found that the same pressure F&R is perfect but that won't be the case for most other owners as their vehicles will be different whether that be the type of vehicle, load or number of passengers they carry.

on me 90 i have 285.75.16 and run at 28 psi all round
on the disco 265,75,16 and run them at 30 psi all round
