ewot yu do is find a dry piece of road. Draw a chalk line across the tyre, note the tyre pressure, drive a 100yds or so and look at the chalk line, if it has worm off the outside edges, the tyre is under inflated. If it has worn off the centre, its overinflated.
repeat ad-naseam until the whole line has worn orf - that about the correct tyre pressure for those particular tyres on yo motor.

If you told us what vehicle/model/year, we could be more informed when attempting to answer your question. Not mind-readers mate.
If it's for a Discovery TDi 300 then the std size was 235/70/16.

Ok so tyre pressures for a std Disco TDi 300 with 235/70/16's:
The book says 26lbf/in for the front and 34 for the rear.
I find that these settings are too low for me so I run at 32 front and 36 rear. Incidently I am running road tyres not AT or mud tyres.
Part of my reason for running more pressure in the front tyres is that I believe the pas steering setup is under-specc'd for the weight of the vehicle such that if you run on 26, the steering feels innappropriately heavy.
I don't find that I get excessive wear in the centre of my tyres at these settings and the car feels perfectly balanced.

i've at's on at min with size as in title but think i will go back to standard size at's, i have horses so need something thats will do both road and offroad. turning circle not that good at min and that with adjusting the stops to stop tyre rubbing.

If you've got horses and you tow a horse trailer, you will need to up the rear tyre pressures to at least 40psi, depending on weight of loaded trailer.
Ours with one fjord poney in weighs about 1300kgs.
If you go for 235's you should be able to adjust the stops to increase the turning circle. PLus narrower tyres are better on soft stuff than wide ones as they tend to sink and grip - wide ones tend to "skate" more.
