I need some help and i thought here would be a good place to ask!

I have/will be aquiring a set of tyres (no rims just the tyres)

what i want to do is fit them to my 1985 90. at the moment i have the standered (ugly!!) wheels,

the tyres i am getting is -

255/70(i think)/16 & i want to be able to fit them on to Black modulars.

what size modulars do i need?? because i can only find them in inches and it makes no sence! (well to me) also can you fit different sizes of tyre to different rims (ie can i have 255 now and when i change can i put 265's on the same rims??)

My background is motorcycles and with that you only have a few different sizes (a R6 rear tyre is a 180/55/zr17 R1 is 190/50/zr17 ect,) so this is kind of new to me!

Hi,

To start with the last size given in a tyre code is the rim size. so in your case a 255x70x16 is ment for a 16" rim. standard landrover. The two things to watch for is if you go for a wider tyre like 285x95x16 idealy these should be fitted to a slightly wider rim. The secound thing to watch is tubless tyres will need to have tubes fitted if they are going to be put on standard land rover steel rims, with the exception of the wolf rims. you arnt really ment to fit tubes in tubless tyres as the inner face on a tubless tyre is not smooth and can cause the inner tube to chafe on the tyre which can cause problems.

I started with 265x75x16 bfg all terrains fitted on rostyle rims (with tubes fitted) and have just changed to 285x95x16 bfg mud terrains which I have loaded onto land rover wolf rims. (with out tubes)

i am not keeping the standered landy rims, i am putting on Black Modulars

I can only find them in 8x16 or 7x16 which ones do i need to fit my 255 tyres, and can i fit wider tyres on the same rim when i next change them. (my dads getting a new car and he doesn't like the A/T tyres, so he is going to change them for road tyres and i am going to have them off him) so i have the tyres but not the rims.
 
Ere' Pimp, sorry, it's not about yer tyres, but did you buy that Landy off ebay from a bunch in Reading?

why is it - yu always find out after the event? It dont matter who yu ask and how much research - its always just after! Or yu decide to let it go and find its the bargain of the century!
 
it is really good, i am very happy with it, It was a bargin!

well worth what i paid.

anyway back to the subject - so 8x16's will be ok!
