I used my high lift jack to get a set of tyres off no so long ago, that works well when you find the right technique ;)
 
save your pennies, couple of bits of angle iron 3inches or so long
stand them on the tyre against the bead and belt them in over
never failed yet for me, from tractor tyres and anything below.
 
my mates got one of them and manages with it ok but only with steeel rims lol
i saw what he did to his wifes alloys with it lol

i have one simular but it air powered, its ok but only for steelys
 
You can get a tyre lever with a nylon head for alloys of cheaper nylon thingies that clip over the rim to protect it.
