Hi,
Just purchased a 2.5td Ninety. Not had any previous experience of driving one and not sure what I should expect. Any Turbo'd vehicle I've driven before gives at least a bit of a tug when the turbo spools up - I can'y say I notice any difference throughout the rev range. That said, it gets up to speed ok and is quite happy at 60. Should I notice a bit of oomph or is this to be expected - it does look like a small turbo on it.

They are a simple early turbocharger and run a fairly low boost pressure. If you can get above 70 on the flat and cruise at 60 it is probably working. Make sure the seals on it are good, runaway is a problem with tthese sometimes.

Hello,

Thanks. Yes, it is good for that no problem - sounds like it is working then. It doesn't have a great deal of guts up hills, need to cog down etc - It has done 120k so I suppose its entitled to wheeze a bit.

I'll change the air filter and oil's and see if it helps out a bit. I notice it has a sensor on the air filter housing (connected to I should say) How should I read that would you know?...

The old 19J was pretty gutless, only marginally better than the N/A engine it replaced.
As turboman says, these engine have a reputation for the turbo seals going, and the ensuing carnage that goes with it.
Early ones IIRC had an issue with the crank bearings
Hence the trend for replacing them with the newer 200tdi.
