I'm thinking of fitting my Transit engine into my 1984 SWB County 2 1/4 petrol. I already have a rusting transit with a good engine, I have been told it's a good mod with the correct ammount of power, anybody had a Landy with this sort of motor fitted?
The mod sounds ok but:
Does the petrol pump have to be used or does the transit lift pump do the business?
What exhaust do I use? Will the petrol one work or will I need a landrover 2.5 diesel one?
I suppose I need a return pipe for the diesel?
Any suggestions (sensible!) welcome.

dont do it, transit engines are ****e slow, they are a complete miss match for a landy gearbox every time you come to a slight incline you will be down the gearbox faster than a fiddlers elbow

I'm not worried about the speed, mine is used on the farm dragging trailers over fields etc. Has skinny mud plugger tyres and early axels without anti-roll bars. Go fast=brown pants!
I want to use bio-diesel (my own mix!) so a high tech engine is a no no.
So forget about road performance, would it tow a 2.5 tonne trailer (slowly!!) with more go then my crap 2 1/4 which could not be worse on hills and petrol consumption at last check 33 miles on a third of a tank!!! (Towing). I don't have enough cash to by another lump as the engine kit is already expensive enough.

Thats a Massey 35, if u know what it is u know why I wanna take the landy. 35 has aircon, no cab! Nuff said?

I do use it for slow speed roadwork with the trailer as well, should have made that clear...

the transit engine has got loads of low down grunt and the di is a great starter for what you want it sounds ideal but you will spend a lot of time in 1st and 2nd

Funny you should say that, other people are saying the Transit lump has little low down torque?????
All depends on who I speak too!
Anybody know if the petrol pump on my petrol landy is the same as the diesel one?? I suppose the filter would be different.....
