Just bought a new transfer box from a 300TDi disco for the 90, as the current one is clunking and leaking from every seal, plus I fancied the 1.2 gearing. Box seems good, little backlash, diff lock works nicely and it has a cross-drilled input gear and spotless splines, covered approx 110K miles.

The seal on the mating face to the gearbox is damaged so I need to get a new one - what is the part number for this? I have found "FF000819 - Transfer Box Input Oil Seal" - is this correct?



Looks like I will have to swap the handbrake bracket over, simple drill and tap in the same place on the disco box?

Any other hints/tips or things to look for?

Cheers James, another quick question - am just going over new box getting it ready for when it goes in but can't get the speedo drive gear out. Am I correct in thinking this needs to be swapped with the one in my current 1.410 transfer case? I've tried levering it with a screwdriver but it seems solid and I can't get much grip on it.

Edit: Finally got it out after much swearing and knuckle bashing.
