200Tdi 110 defender.

I changed the transfer box oil and gear box fluid the other day and the drip it still there. It only happens after I run the car for a while.

I cleaned up some of the grime and the drip looks like it's coming from in between the gear box and transfer box.

What do you think is worn? What is the usual problem with these?

I have read that the breathers might be blocked. There's years of thick grime everywhere, even around where the leak is. I will clean more off and do more investigation.

Any help would be great please.
 
Drips off a gear box bolt (on the right) and all the area around there is oily after being dry all last night then driving around this morning.
It's not red so it's not ATF.
When i changed the oil last week there was a lot in there and changed the copper washer too. It's nice and tight on there.
 
I admit I'm confusing my self on IDing parts on the photo. There is a small apace between the transfer box and gear box and there is a lot or muck in there.

Also I blew down the breather I found in the engine bay at the back, I could blow.

I'm new to all the mechanical stuff!

In that space you may be able to see the end of the intermediate shaft [when clean] it has an O ring on it that goes hard over time and leeks.To replace you have to separate gear and transfer box's,I did mine by moving the two apart just enough for space to push the shaft out forward to expose the O ring and renew [bit of a fiddle] the rear also has an O ring but it is in the casing and can also be changed with care.
 
Theres also a tell tale hole between the boxes so if either the gbox output seal or the tfer box input seal leaks they leak out of the telltale to let you know the seal has failed.
If its only a drip every now and then i really wouldnt worry to much
A good temp cure is a car wash sponge secured to the leaky bit as this soaks up quite a bit of oil before it allows any to drip onto the floor, works a treat on my series motor with the rear crank seal.
 
Mine went like that for several years before it got bad enough to need doing just remember to check oil often. cheers
