Hi all, not having a good weekend. Had a very helpful mechanic fit my transfer box with cdl, thank you very much. However went out the morning, pool of oil and the underside of the car is covered in gear oil, seems to be peeling from between the transfer and auto box. Now I know it's gear oil and its super clean so its from the transfer box. He assures me he fitted it correctly and didn't nick the seal, it would more seem like the seal has been pushed through during fitting? Is this possible? Should he thread lock it in place? He is fixing free of charge, of course and clearing up the mess. Advice please. Also, need to order a new seal, anyone got the part no.

if its losing a good bit of oil ,theres a bolt securing t/box to auto just under high low lever where it enters housing on t/box often gets missed and not refitted, if not that and is truly from between the 2 input seal (icv100000)is easily dislodged during fitting of t/box .i often loctite seal into case if not a tight fit, plus seal needs vaseline or similar smearing on inner side to hold garter spring in place it easily comes off if new seal is tapped in to place

Thanks for the comprehensive response, between the wo mating faces at he bottom looking up, there is a small cutout, I call it an indicator, its cascading from tree so I thinks the seal. Shall on pass, thanks for the help.

I agree that the transfer box input seal has been caught when going over the input shaft. ( or possibly a failed seal which happened to my diff pinion seal ).

That cut out you mention is indeed there to allow leaked oil out and alert you of the leak. Some people fill this hole with sealant while sealing the boxes together so that and leaks dont get out. Its very bad practise.
