Discover 1 96 Any one done both of these I was hoping buster had done an photo tour of this, how feasable is it to get the bearing out the case I have pullers for the one on the shaft (front or rear cant remember) but its the one that "can be hooked out with a modified screwdriver or pry lever) yeah right!! I have a oxy rig I can heat the box up with but a mate says maybe a bit risky as the heat referred to he rekons means in a "warm oven" where the temp is applied evenly comments anyone

Are you talking about the front and rear output bearings?

If so Buster has covered this :)

which bearings do you mean

both easy ,front remove flange 30mm socket ,remove seal ,remove circlip ,replace flange and nut, lever out shaft and bearing ,rear remove hand brake assembly 4 x 15mm socket ,undo speedo cable ,remove flange ,remove speedo housing ,remove seal and circlip, knock shaft through bearing (out to in )knock bearing out ,dont tap bearings in with a punch a large socket or similar on outer race ,apply grease on garter spring on inside of seal to hold spring in place whilst fitting seal, remember circlips fit one way round ,holes are tapered fit with smallest side of hole outer most,if speed o housing (300 tdi and on )is fitted with sealant use silicone ,if earlier box and has gasket use gasket as it alters preload on diff bearing if you dont

Cheeers James, it on the cards first warm dry day one other thing I have had a poke around on the net and tried Rimmers etc does any one do a bearing and seal kit, they dont seem to be readilly available
