Hi
I'm new to this forum (this is my first post) so perhaps there's an existing thread - in which case pointers to the best part of the forum would be gratefully received.
I'm about to have a detachable towbar and single socket fitted to Freelander2 (which has rear reversing sensors) and can’t decide between the basic wiring or paying the extra £170 for the dedicated Landrover loom which cuts off the sensors in reverse when the trailer is attached.
I’d be very grateful for any advice/experience on this.
Best regards

Mike

Ok thx - I've found the search facilitysince posting, but haven't yet found views on this specific question .... also, I had nothing else interesting to say in my introductory message ;-)

I know that on some vehicles the sensor cut out can be programmed in via software, rather than having to pay out for a dedicated kit, but then I guess the Main Dealers won't like this. It's worth asking around a few local places to see what they can do, if they've done one before etc.. £170 extra does sound a lot

Thx for that. I've asked around local places but they all seem to only do the basic wiring AND they are more expensive than the (national) towbar express ppl - who I found first and who seem to be the most knowledgeable.

As far as I can figure out, the only downside of the cheaper option is that the sensors will beep all the time when you are reversing with a trailer. OTOH I don't often reverse with a trailer so could probably live with that ..... but if someone said "whatever you do, don't just get the basic wring because <all sorts of dreadful consequences I hadn't thought of>" I'd reconsider.

As long as it's not clipped on with Scotchlocks, but fitted properly it should (in my humble opinion anyway) be OK.

Personally I'd do away with the sensors, they drive me mad and I've never reversed into anything yet in nigh on 30 years of driving all sorts of wierd & wonderful vehicles :)

trouble you are most likely to have is down to vehicle can bus system, if you opt for dedicated wiring then it will marry in when the vehicle does its systems check, sensors will go off when reversing, as will fog light not work when towing, and warning light will work in instument cluster.
