Please can someone enlighten me about tow bars.
I have just bought a trailer off fleabay and it has an eye on the hitch.( max load for trailer is 2500Kg)
I need to buy a dual purpose tow bar, with a ball and pin.
So....
1.What are the different sizes of pins and eyes available.
2. Does the pin have to match the eye on the trailer exactly.
3. What weight limits are there with the pin, how do i know my pin will be safe.
4. Can i use different size pins in my tow bar assembly
5. How do i measure the eye? is it just the inner diameter?

1 Unless it's a NATO Hitch or a big farm trailer. they'll all be the same size
2 No there's always a bit of movement.
3When you buy your new combined Ball & Pin hitch it will have the SWL with it.
4 NO. Also buy an hitch where the pin is seperate to the ball or the Ball & pin are one piece. Don't get one where the pin goes thru the ball.
5 Yes. But also check the thickness of the ring and make sure there's enough of a gap between the back of the towing pin and the hitch for the ring to fit in.

I measured the inner diameter of the eye, it's 38mm, so i guess it's a 30mm pin then? or will a 25mm pin work.

Thicker is better. think 25mm is only 2tonnes. but I may be wrong.
