Ok,
So I ordered some GKN bearings from LRSERIES and they turned up in a Britpart box....I flipped my lid as I paid for the more expensive option of GKN/Hardy spicer...

Now I got thinking, why is there a 'G' at the end of the par number? Do Britpart manufacture prop bearings using GKN bearings or something?

Picture below - have I been sold a dud or is it indeed a GKN bearing supplied by Britpart?

Think that is the 'quality' version of britpart spares. Funnily enough was talking about this t'other day. G stands for genuine,or so I was told. I would question it too though.. Always suspicious of those packages that have that word on it!
 
yes thats right i fitted some to mine back in summer and gkn is what landrover use as a gen part just with landrover stamped on it plus gkn ones have the inner red seal

The land rover mechanic I recently met will use britpart spares if they have the 'G' in the part number, and he is fussy, and won't use anything electrical with ****part written on the packaging..
 
britpart are wholesaler not manufacturer g means genuine part on the end of number so is as good as any they sell cheap pattern as well as genuine ,oe,oem and good branded parts they do 3 types of toq000040 pattern £!0 each toq000040g oem £30 each and toq000040gkn £40 each while lr is £77

Based on my link to lrseries have I been sent a TOQ000040G instead of TOQ000040GKN then James?

Surely Land Rover dont make their own parts - out sourced and badged as Land Rover.

Always thought GKN parts was original fittings.
 
All sorted chaps.

Spoke to sales guy at Britpart who confirmed that TOQ000040G was an oem part that they distribute, if I wanted a GKN one that Britpart distribute I needed the number TOQ000040GKN.

I contacted lrseries with this info who appologised profusely for the mix up and are sending me out a set of GKN ones tomorrow.

Appreciate your input on this topic y'all. ;)
 
p.s spoke to a local bearing supply company and the best bearings for the job on a propshaft are FAG ones (rubber metal shielded race etc) with a 2RS type seal on them. I believe this is what Land Rover supply in the bearings they sell.
 
An update for you, the GKN ones turned up today - brilliant!!
They have the FAG bearing that the Genuine Landrover units have.
£33 each is a steal - very happy!
