When my new 110 returns from the MOT and hopefully gets a clean bill of health (fingers crossed) I am thinking about the best way to keep the chassis in good order. I have heard that Waxoyling is a good method but that it costs about 350quid to get a good job done.

Anybody have any experience of Waxoyling a defender? Is it a good that you can do yourself or is it better to get a professional? If so, any suggestions of a good place near Leeds that can do this work?

ive done quite a few very easy job if you have method of steam cleaning and lifting vehicle ,get the mix right and when sprayed at full pressure 100-120 psi gets in every nook cranny even up widow frames and out of top joints, you need about 5 litres, tis possible to do on floor but a lot harder

You will need a compressor, Shutz gun with extension to get inside chassis etc, Set of ramps and or axle stands (3 tonne), half decent pressure washer, a good hot dry day or two, anything between 5 and 15 Ltrs of Waxoil and an understanding better half, due to the mess you are going to make in the driveway, and Bobs your uncle. Its easy..:p:D

Dont forget if you pay someone 350 quid, for that money you can buy all the tools mentioned above and do the job for less and still own the tools afterwards.
Look on e bay sealey wax gun ive had one for years really good bit of kit http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Sealey-Air-Op...s_Equipment&hash=item1e5f83d7d3#ht_1017wt_907
It will need doing at least every two years as its not permanent no matter what anyone tells you.
Ankor wax by Morris lubricants is better but again still not for life.

Agree with all the above

Personally prefer Ankor wax - sprays easier and not so critical for the chassis to be bone dry

Used by farmers, and having myself used waxoyl and ankor wax, am now a convert.

Becasue it sprays easier, I barely got any on the drive (or me!)

Just ensure you focus on inside the box sections as well as what you can see - compressor and schutz gun with probe a must!

I only did the box sections (used KBS 3 part system on the outside chassis).

To do in and out with ankor wax, allowing for prep and remvasl of loose rust with wire brush attachment on a drill, allow 4 - 5 hours

Whatever happened to the old way of spraying on the old engine oil?

Done it on all of mine in the past, and it soaks in everywhere! Downside is that you have to put up with the smell for a day or two!

Happy days!

In the old days and old ways ships were made of wood and powered by sail, and you walked:D:D:D

I've just jet washed, wire brushed and then sprayed Waxoyl on mine while on the floor but with a 2" lift it is quite easy to get underneath. Mine was still pretty well Waxoyled already so I just pumped an additional 2.5l onto it. Took about 4 hrs with all jobs added up and then the same again to clean the drive

Ships of wood, driven across the oceans by cloth engines and crewed by men of steel who could walk on water! Ah yes, I remember it well.

Never again would I have to make do and mend ... :)

... Then I discovered Landies  ... The rest is history!

Ah yes, engine oil. Works a treat, but sensitive souls like me become distressed by seeing bikers falling off in the rear view mirror:D

If you are going to spray engine oil on your chassi, make sure you dont leave a trail..

last time I saw a trail of diesel on the road I followed it till i found the knut, im sure he wont do it again.
