Does that mean that you paid that £300 quid for the clutch work? Or, a previous owner?
Undersealing my range rover and got a surprise. Me thinks the garage that charged £300 Labour to replace the pins on the clutch arm may have taken a small shortcut :/
That really is unbelievable. Either that was done by the cowboy who trained all other cowboys or the previous owner said "I'm not paying for you to take the gearbox out, how else can you do it..........."

How long ago was it done... surely at some point you've got to notice a gaping hole like that where there shouldn't be one!

As for all that work for a £1.90 part - be grateful it isn't a Massey 300 series (tractor) - wherein there is a 34p spring in the gearbox range change mechanism, which requires the cab off, the gearbox split from the trans and then disassembled. £2K at a specialist, somewhat more if the dealer gets involved.
Don't ask my neighbour how he knows.
