Removal AUTOMATIC BELT TENSIONER
Raise and support front of vehicle.
Remove:
RH front wheel.
Engine undershield.
RH splash guard.
Starter motor.
Auxiliary drive belt.
Timing belt upper cover Fig.11500.1.
urn crankshaft clockwise until timing marks on camshaft sprockets aligned with marks on timing belt rear cover (90° BTDC) Fig.11500.2.
Lock camshaft sprockets. Use tool No.LRT-12-134 Fig.11500.3.
Lock flywheel. Use tool No.LRT-12-145.
Support engine.
Remove:
RH engine mounting.
Crankshaft pulley bolt Fig.11500.13.
Crankshaft pulley Fig.11500.4.
Timing belt lower cover and seal Fig.11500.5.
Remove tensioner bolt Fig.11500.6. Fit new bolt.
Remove index spring and tensioner pulley Fig.11500.7 & Fig.11500.8.
Remove timing belt.
WARNING: If belt has been in use for more than 48,000 miles: Fit new belt.
WARNING: If belt has been in use for more than 80.000 km: Fit new belt.
Installation
Ensure timing marks on camshaft sprockets aligned with marks on timing belt rear cover Fig.11500.2.
Ensure locking tool located correctly in camshaft sprockets Fig.11500.3.
Ensure crankshaft sprocket dots aligned with flange on oil pump Fig.11500.9 (90° BTDC).
Fit tensioner pulley and index spring Fig.11500.8 & Fig.11500.7. Use new bolt Fig.11500.6.
NOTE: Replace tensioner every 100,000 miles.
NOTE: Replace tensioner every 160.000 km.
Ensure index spring located correctly.
Position tensioner lever at 9 o'clock Fig.11500.10.
Tighten tensioner bolt until tensioner can just be moved Fig.11500.6.
Fit timing belt in anti-clockwise direction, starting at crankshaft sprocket. Ensure belt is taut between sprockets.
Install:
Timing belt lower cover and seal Fig.11500.5.
Crankshaft pulley Fig.11500.4.
Remove locking tool from camshaft sprockets Fig.11500.3.
Turn tensioner anti-clockwise until pointer Fig.11500.11 aligned with index spring Fig.11500.7. Use Allen key (6 mm).
NOTE: Repeat tensioning procedure if pointer passes index spring.
If reusing old belt: Align lower part of pointer to index spring Fig.11500.12.
Tighten tensioner bolt to 25 Nm Fig.11500.6.
Turn crankshaft two turns clockwise until timing marks aligned Fig.11500.2 & Fig.11500.9.
Ensure pointer still aligned Fig.11500.11.
If not: Repeat tensioning procedure.
Install components in reverse order of removal.
Tighten crankshaft pulley bolt to 205 Nm Fig.11500.13.
