Anyone got any experience of chasing the thread of the spline shaft of the VCU after forcing it off the propshaft?

I know it's an M10x1 thread and there is thread chaser that size on eBay for a few quid, but having spent so much energy getting the damn thing off I don't want to use something cheap if there are better alternatives out there.

I have resisted trying to persuade the bolt to go in there so far.

Not sure what you are trying to do.

Did you use the bolt suitably adjusted to get leverage to pull the UJ yoke off ??

If so then the bolt is sacrificial and might be bent but never had thread damage.

How did you remove the VCU from UJ ??

To be honest, if the thread is anything more than slightly damage for the first couple of threads, I'd scrap the VCU. They're plentiful and pretty cheap now.

I hammered in a curved chisel (I chopped up a pry bar to make it) through the UJ, against the bolt. until I forced the VCU out.
It was seized solid and took a lot of force.

I thought it might just be the bolt that was damaged but i ordered a new one in and that wouldn't go in easily. I tested it the other end to make sure it was the right pitch and it is.

I may have to. I will try the thread chaser I found first if nobody can point to a better quality one.

A standard tap would clean any burrs.

Spiral fluted taps are pretty good.
