A bloke at work has a 300tdi with a full width intercooler - it sits across in front of the radiator. There is room there, but getting the pipework hooked up is gonna be a PITA. Failing that, you don't need the intercooler in the short term do you?
Ye can run them without the intercooler AFAIK, especially in cold weather where intake air is going to be pretty cold to start with. You might notice a bit of a performance drop but I don't really see another option without making a botch job of it or spending loads of time/money trying to make it fit.
I reackon i'll drop it for now, i will take a mooch around the scrappy to see if any other style of intercooler can be fitted somewhere else ( ie in front, thin and long ), otherwise it'll be removed for now.
