Put the LSE on ebay last night. Phone call 5 minutes after going live. Guy turned up today with the reddys. Must have been too cheap. Still I got more than enough to convince the Mrs a Jag XJR really is the way forward:) So can't really grumble.

Fastest I've ever sold a motor, must have got lucky. Seen so many sit on there and go nowhere thought I was pushing my luck at £1800. We live and learn.
 
Wintertime. Someone else was saying they shift like hot cakes with the first cold snap in winter.

Quite possibly but the watchers were going up every time I refreshed the page. Thought of hanging on for a proper auction. But when someone has the reddys in their mits it's always hard to turn down!!
 
Sold a Merc ML350 for a friend in 2 hours and it wasn't listed cheap either, had to turn away another buyer who was coming down to see it halfway. A well written adv with good pics does help move a vehicle fast.

On the other hand a Range Rover Classic sat for almost a month with me, was getting tired of seeing in the parking lot :)
 
Be warned about the XJR. My old mans has gone wrong at the moment. Took it to the stealer and they wanted 3'000 to fix a radar cruise control unit. Needless to say I pulled it from them and am looking to go independent but if you're not buying new >5yrs you're going to hit problems. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1355820308.870656.jpg
Ignore the disabled markings. It's parked at the business on a Sunday an no one is around. Also. They are LETHAL in the snow. That's why he's always borrowing my defender!

I've had a few before and the deeds been done and I'm on a roll at the moment.

A mate in the trade sometimes gets lumbered with main dealer PX's he doesn't really want and he just happened to have to take a 1998 XJR. I took a look and would have given him the £1600 he wanted if it had come without any history, it looked a tidy motor. Any how it came with a wad of paper work that he hadn't even looked through.

It turns out to be a 1 owner car serviced as per schedule by the same Jag dealer, not just stamps but receipts for every thing ever done to the motor.
And the icing on the cake? It suffered the nikasil issue and 20000 miles ago was fitted with a brand new factory engine at a cost of £4600:)

If I fell in **** I'd come up smelling of roses at the moment. Fair to say my mate was non too chuffed as 10 minutes of investigation could have netted him a tidy sum.

I very much doubt it died of Nikasil liner issues, they tended to go early or last forever racking up stupid mileages. I suspect it failed due to camchain tensioner issues - pre 2000 V8s had plastic tensioners which fail. The only other common faults are water pump (replace original one which had a plastic impeller that melted) and wheel wobble due to front wishbones which last about 70K miles. Truly fantastic cars - enjoy it - and I had no problem with either of mine in the snow, just don't let tread depth dip below 4mm during winter and you'll be fine.

Doesn't state nikasil issue but compression was down and there wasn't complete failure just down on power. Charged £350 for the privilege of being told he needed a new engine as they replaced a coil on number 8, all the plugs and maf sensor before a compression test was done. He didn't lose faith in them as a week later it was booked in for a new engine!!

Never seen such comprehensive history with a car. Tyres changed 4 times over its life by the same dealer at over a grand a time. Front wishbones were changed at 80K and water pump before new engine.

It drives spot on and if you changed the plates you would think you were in a motor half the age. Can't believe my luck as a week earlier I missed out bidding on a rather tired example that was dearer.
 
Well, when I had my XJRs - both shod with Pirelli P Zeros - I lived in the sticks and drove to work on twisty country roads - never had a problem.
