Hi all, Welding woe's a plenty. I have a list as long as my arm of welding I need to do before the mot in august, and I now know its going to be easier with mig, not arc. So I need gas in larger quantities than halfrauds can rip me off for! I don't want a monthly contract, cos once I've finished, I wont need it that often after. I have been looking all over the net, and finally found this:
Refillable Argon/Co2 Gas Cylinder for Mig Welding

Is this a good deal? I'm so out of my depth here, I'm kicking up silt. I'm sure there's a pro who can tell me I'm a twot, and this is rubbish etc etc, but I got very little cash (hence learning/doing welding myself) and really need the best deal I can get, so any advice would be great! Cheers guys!

Pubs go through loads of CO2 bottles.
If you've got a friendly landlord, borrow a full one off him and give it back when done.

I think I got the bottle adapter from machine mart
(you will need one if you go to the larger size bottles - about £15 if I remember right)

£135!!! I'd stick to disposable bottles, I've just done my disco and only used 3 bottles at £15 each and this is what I had to weld

front body mounting
front inner wing
both inner and outer sills
o/s/r door pillar
both rear inner and outer wheelarches
boot floor
boot floor crossmembers
rear seatbelt mountings
rear seat mounts

only thing I would suggest is don't mess about with the small reels of wire get the 5kg one.

Its cheaper to get a contract. Most places will not have a min contract duration, so you just cancel when you're done.
Defo no point in buying your own cylinder if your going stop welding once done.

The cylinder rental charge is almost always more expensive than the gas. I try to tell this to the retards at work.....they order up 3 or 4 cylinders of N2 and leave them sitting around full for months racking up the rental charge :brick:

Hmmmm ok. good ideas. I think judging by what you got done V8jon, I must have had my disposable bottle set up wrong as I only got about a foot of weld out of it. The mig was donated, its only a migmate 105, but it came with a huge reel of cable on it, so I was very happy. but the regulator seal was mullered, so I cut a new one and thought I'd solved it. suppose not then. Can seals be got? don't really fancy paying out another 20 quid on a regulator. Also, I will weld for ever more (it is a disco after all!) but not as much so quick, so having a bigger bottle on hand would be nice.:D

Might want to take a look at Hobby Weld. You only pay a deposit on the bottle, no monthly rental. Then pay for refills as you need them.
Welcome To Hobbyweld The Home Of Rent Free Welding Gas Cylinders

I got one and ditched the BOC contract. Yes, the gas costs a bit more but no direct debit every month when I only weld 2 or 3 times a year.
I saw them advertised a while back but couldnt remember the name. I think I will go for these when my bottle runs out. Thanks for that.

Ok, might be being thick here, but why on hobbieweld's website is delivery to the north and scotland only 12 quid but to the rest of the country its 25 quid? Other than that they look pretty good, cheers dsolds!

Yeah I asked that too. They are still new and looking for distributors and they have few places to ship from. I put a mate their way regarding becoming a distributor since both him and me are RR and Disco lovers - the D3 forum has a courier service which could work well.

Anyway, hope it's of use to you.

Dom.

Or do as I did and use pub gas, last group buy I did we got approx 3 foot bottle and no rental £13 each.

Other than landlords, where do you get yours from? is there a wholesaler, or do the breweries sell it or what? I am well up for it if it can be that cheap. it'll be the difference between my wagon rollin' or burnin' come MOT time! Cheers for the advice all of you guys so far!

thos disposable bottles are ****e , about 15 mins of arc time with a real welder-not that they will fit on a real welder without mods lol. I used 2000 litres on my 72 rrc welding outside in wind for many days. It was a alot of steel it needed though lol

I have pmd you re gas
