hi all
like said in my other posts when i bought the td5 its power steering pump was leaking ,the guy said it had been repaired but just incase he had also ordered a new one (he was not confident the garage had repaired it well he said,so to me he saying JOHN WAYNE had fixed it)

any way i watched a vid on youtube for 20 mins and started (vid was very very good apart from it turned out to be for the v8 not the td5 :rolleyes:so i took the car more apart than i needed to !!!! but at least i now no more about it lol

anyway ,fan off and pics taken of the belt set up


and while fan off i wd40 the spring and then heated the coil slightly to make sure its working all good :)


next the aircon off,this had one bolt that was a pain in ass,and to be honest i think i could of left it on but the vid said remove


now this is where i realised that the pump in the vid was fitted dif,as on vid you had to take the total bracket it off but as you can see below its just a case of the 5 bolts that have yellow on them ,then the pump just slids out


turned out to be a very easy job :):):)
and heres why the pump was leaking !!!! the guy def was JOHN WAYNE !!!!!!!!



the def between the v8 and td5 pumps are the td5 has splins on the back that you have to carefully slot into the water pump (think its the water pump) where the v8 is a flat back pump that presses into the bracket
 
right have i done something wrong??????????? please help

all seems good,no leaks ,fluid in header not dropped a mm

when i refilled the system i filled it ,started the car ,turned steering left to right to expel any air in system,turned off and re topped up fluid !

BUT now when on tick over the steering is heavier and when you turn you get a noise coming from system, BUT as soon as you slightly rev the steering is nice and light and no noise

ANY IDEAS WHERE OR WHAT I HAVE DONE WRONG???? could it still be air in there?

the steering seems to be getting worse!!! i read up on the correct way of bleeding the td5 using the nipple on the steering box
had a right job getting the panel off as bolts rusty to hell

once in i decided probley easier from top so took some pipe work off and got it easy
bleed it and got fluid every where lol

i passed 4 ltr throw her in total but still the same!!!!

have i done something wrong????????
could it be the new pumps ****???
could the fluid im using be the problem? ie garage gave me wrong stuff?

i had no o ring to put on the pressure pipe that connected to the pump as forgot to buy one,but surely if it was that say sucking in air then it would leak too????

i have to drive back to uk from germany in 3 weeks towing a 22ft trailer so def need to get this sorted

if anyone has any ideas please help
 
can you see quite heavy twirl of the fluid in the reservoir with engine running?.... if not it means the pump doesnt work well
 
They really shouldnt need bleeding, they should self bleed as long as pipes are clear especially res to pump, there is no relief valve in box, either poor pump or box, Maybe pump if it seems not to work at low revs

when engine running the header tank has lots of twirl even at idle

before changing the pump the steering was spot on apart from it leaking so i dont under stand
would it be worth me taking it all apart again ? i assume it cant be anything to do with the backing plate that slots into the water pump can it??? it came with no gasket for the back of the pump to where it slids into water pump so i never put sealant or any thing on it , should i of???
 
I'm looking for a piccy, but I remember someone said on the empty reservoir-there is a screwhead in the bottom holding what appears to be a gauze filter !

please dont say the new pump is ****ed
 
i can see only a photobucket picture... i dunno if the pump is bad or not or what's the reason just that even at idle it must be a serious twirl there
 
hopefully now vid should work i just check on a dif pc that im not logged into and when i clicked the vic the vid came up
 
Right need help again please

went out today again to bleed the steering to see if it got any better,but hell no if anything it was worse!!!

so i decided after what sierrafery said
that even on idle the twirl in the header should be serious!!! and mine not !!!!
so with that i decide to dig the old pump out of the bin (yep i was bin diving,the kids wet them selves lol)

i took the new pump back off and replaced the old badly leaking one ,and yep steering bad to normal even on idle you could turn the steering very easly with on hand ,and the twirl in the header was serious even on idle

so sort of a result ,as in the problem was the new pump,not my fitting it or anything else on the car!!!!
but the old pump was leaking so bad no way could i use it ,so off it came ,and other back on just to in a emergeny i have a car till i can figure out now what to do !!!

i decided to try take old pump to pieces and see how it works etc and hopefully try to reseal it
anyway yep easly taken to bits after 10 sec in the press lol BUT THEN I SLIPPED AND DROPPED IT !!!!

so did not get to see how it came apart ,just need to figure out how it all goes back together lol



anyway figured it out all bits where they should be etc
I CANT SEEM TO FIND WHERE I SAW IT BUT I SAW SOMEWHERE YOU CAN BUY THE PROPER GASKET FOR THESE FOR 8 POUNDS ,DOES ANYONE NO WHERE TO GET THEM???
OR IF NOT WHAT WOULD BE BEST TO USE TO SEAL IT??

ps the old pump have 2003 stamped on it so most likey the org pump so to be honest it did very well up to now,but apart from seal all seems good ie bearing

but can't you claim other pump in warranty though?

the new pump should be in warranty ,but ive lost the receipt!!!!!!
I watched that vid ,not quite same as mine but near as dame it as thats a v8 one i think not td5 as does not slot into water pump

wonder if they sell the gasket but there usa i think :0
would this stuff seal it ???
