Hi,

I have the dreaded MOT tommorow, but it comes with free retest.

I have an old series 3, I would say its in fairly good condition... I cant see any hole underneath.. so waht else should I concentrate on?

The hand brakes works fine but you can rock it an inch or two when its on.. is that a fail?

Also the seat belts in the front, where are they suppose to be ... i mean there normal belts and not lap belts but the dont come from the corner.. if that makes sense?

Im taking it to quick fit purely as I cant get time off to take it to my normal garage, are they used to Mot somthing this old?

Please tell me your MOT isnt up tomorrow..

It really is worth
a, giving your self time to go over the vehicle.
and
b, finding/taking somewhere that understands Landrovers.

Cos they will understand that being able to rock it a couple of inches with the handbrake on is ok on a Landy.

I wouldnt trust kwik fit with with a shopping trolley, so no chance with my pride and joy. They wont understand the finer points of landys.
Good luck though

Its actually due in a couple of weeks, but thought with a free retest i could take it in see how it did and put it right. was only £25.00. Only reason i'm mot early is might have to sell it.. due to mrs loosing her job:(

If you take it to kwik fit it will fail on
a: brakes
b: tyres
c: exhaust
and they will tell you it's dangerous to drive and get you to have the work done with them so they can make it "safe".
How very kind of them!
Also with the free retest you'll have to take it back within a certain time usualy 7 days or they will charge you again.

What v8jon said
I had a Mondeo went to kwik fit for mot fail on tyres and exhaust, I aqsked about tyres as they had only been on for 2 months, luckly this was just before mot went computerised so I told them to cancel the mot and went up the road to a garage and the car went straight through. so i've used the ever since

Kwik fitters mind blew when I mentioned inner tube tyres

:hysterically_laughi

Kwik fitted did an unasked for "safety check" on a car I'd taken to em to fit some new tyres (they were the cheapest for the tyres I wanted )
Fitter says yr front discs are badly worn and rusty on the outside edge.

I told him politely where he could get off.

I'd replaced them only 2000 miles ago.

The likes of kwikfit, ats etc are all just salesmen who use the MOT as a tool to pressurise you to spend money. Nothing less than rogues, charlatans and con men.

Too true. I fell out with the local Kick Fit recently, they sold me 2 new tyres and one developed two cuts in the wall, it looked like a defect. Charged me £30 to replace it, I said NO so they charged me £19. Still waiting to hear from them as they said it would be sent for exam' and I would get a refund. I told them they lost a good customer but they were too THICK to understand. Kwick Fit are crap, bunch of cowboys:mad:.

Kwik fit were ok for tyres ,etc up till about 5,6 years back but not now ,last year a copper pulled me about the tyres on my old combo van ,gave me a warning or else ! so being mad busy at the time and with a kwik fit near by where i was, i got 4 van tyres fitted ,but god never again ,they charge you for the trye ,disposal of old tyre ,wheel balancing ,the valves ,even the air they put in ,with vat came to £270.00 nearly dropped on floor ! the following week terry from tex tyres next to local petrol station said he could do the same tyres fulley fitted all in for 140 ! so learnt my lesson dont buy tyres when your in a rush ,infact il go to him soon for 4 transit tyres for new van ,part worn 20 quid each !

Kwik fit wanted to, for a puncture repair, rim clean up and re-fit, wait for it... £19!!!! I pay ten!
A mate of mine works for kwik rip(off)they are dear and are trained to get as much money out of the "i no nothing" brigade of motorists.Told plenty of fish in sea attitude to customers take them for wat you can :doh:

My uncle used to be a manager at kwik fit and I needed some tyres swapping over between 2 lots of wheels so he phoned his mate who still worked there and sorted it for me,

Went down there and they tried telling me that they were the "wrong size" tyres (5mm smaller profile) and that I would be driving illegally on the wrong size tyres and my ABS light would come on,

Told them to shut up and put it on and I'd come back if the light came on, and of course, it didn't......and thats with my uncle knowing the bloody manager!

A close friend of mine had his shocks done here in newport 2 months later he was in bourmouth had a puncture went into kwik fit they told him shocks fook'd he said well change them when he came to pay pulled reciept out of dash for the old shocks.:doh::doh:a lot of red faces and a free tyre result:D

Ide rather push my car with 4 flat tyres than use quick fit robbing bastids, as already said they are trained to extract as much money from customers as possible they advertise cheap tyre deals which i can beat without even trying. There a national over priced cowboy outfit with a big advertising budget that are only interested in emptying your wallet/purse.

I took it to similar place to quick fit... £25.00 I thought what the heck...

Any ways.. was a little concerned when the lad was only 20 and had to ask me how to turn it off.

then and older bloke who worked there did the test as he used to own them...so passed with one advisory. - corrosion on the front number plate... lol:)
