My 200tdi Disco is very slow to warm up according to the gauge. I have fitted a new thermostat and it still takes about ten miles town driving to get warm. Get on the motorway though and the heat comes through instantly and the gauge comes up to half way. I'm wondering if the sender is wrong but dont know what colour it should be.

Put a new sender in yesterday. Still no movement on gauge even after 30 miles!
I am getting warm air. What do I have to do to short the wire from the sender to check for electrical contnuity?
The thermostat keeps the engine warm, holding back the water in the block until it gets up to temp then it lets it go to the radiator for cooling.

Just pull wire off the sender on side of engine, then either
1/ With assistance - one person watches the gauge while the other holds the metal connector to the engine block, with ignition on
2/ alone - get a wire and connect up an earth point to the connector, then go and turn ignition on and watch the gauge
