Be my luck ! Just spoken to a friend on the phone he said he had a similar problem with an air lock on a v6 granada and emptied the coolant completly and gave it a flush through and that done the job, but doesnt know anything about freelanders. Could this be a similar problem or just get the tests done or take it back, Bit guttered as its in mint condition inside and out with full service history.
they are a bugger to fill with water - best option is a vacuum fill, not easy fur Jo public to do - mite even make the situation worse. I wud advise yu do as little as poss. take it back to the stealer and get a sniffer test done. Check the warranty covers hgf.

mine used to happen mainly on short journeys - ie not all the time. I think wot happens is that on long journeys the water temp evens out. On short journeys it heats up then heat-soaks in the heads, coz yu stop before it has time to get any flow through the radiator. Wot dont help is the thermostat is on the RETURN from the radiator - so yu got no idea wot temp the engine is at!!!!
just in case they "cant find nuffink rong, mate" it mite be worth getting the sniffer test done somewhere other than where yu bought it. maybe after the stealer has seen it - just in case they say "fair cop guv"

All i can tell yu is mine went 6mnths before i bought it. Woohoo i thought - its bin fixed - nope it went a year after i got it.
make sure when it is stripped they go thro it with a fine tooth comb. INSIST! they check liner heights are within latest spec (its on here somewhere, my fred most likely). good if they can check heads for pourosity. get them skimmed if the minutest amounts of warping. Get them to check and possibly replace the thermostat, because it is a bitch to get to when put back together.
If yu intent to keep it - fit an external lecky water pump and controller to allow water circulation after engine shutdown.
dont forget hgf mite be covered but oils, water, hoses, other things normally aint - so it might still cost yu a packet!

Good thing is Hatters, reading his #5 post, he's only had it a week, so I'd want EVERYTHING paid for....or I'd set Ming und Porky on him...if that didn't work, I've got Slob in reserve...
unfortunately Cashew, warranty companies arent quite so terrified of Ming and Porky as we are. Even less of Slob. Bless him!
when I had my hgf done - the warranty peeps sed "normal consumables and wear and tear aren't covered by the warranty". maybe thats just warranty direct for ya
thats how they got out of the oils, anti-freeze etc and because I insisted on liner heights and porosity tests on the heads - they used the excuse " its not necessary - get it done at your cost!"

Aftermarket ones invariably have a clause about "existing known faults" which means they wont pay up fur the first cupple of months either. They also aren't local - so you cant shout at them easily. They also insist that the initial investigation is done at your risk - just in case it "isn't a valid claim" until agreed by the assessor. Buying from a local stealer (or garage) at least means yu got someone local yu can shout at and also is responsible fur the warranty - ie if it aint covered by warranty coz it was "existing" - yu still got em fur "fit fur purpose". unless Rets sez diff, of course

you just need to keep at them and they'll cough up in the end. ..if part of the job involves oil,gaskets,height check etc then they have to pay up..
like most insurance companies they will try anything to get out of paying so you have to insist strongly and if that fails take legal action, but be armed with lots of paper work to back up yer claim, AA reports, photos, common sense and a heinze manual to show that fluids and gaskets are part of the job and not some extras.
i once had a telly blow up on opening it i found a dead spider that looked like it had shorted out the lectrics, so i wrote to insurance company to get a noo telly. they wrote back and said that it wasn't covered as damage caused by insects wasn't covered.
they then got a big package sent to them explaining that a spider isn't an insect and that if they didn't get me a new telly within 14 days they would be hearing from me lawyer. abart 10 days later van turns up wiff noo telly.

my story is history Slob (morning, by the way) If yu remember, I went through a nausiating saga with my Hippoo and the insurance, including them refusing to take calls - with my Hippoo in bits in a garage! I do not intend to repeat it on here again. Suffice it to say "be careful" - i even asked Retz fur advice (thank yu Rets)!
