On a hot day with the climate control set to 'low' the air coming out isn't actually that cool.

I have noticed on occasion that the temperature that is displayed clearly isn't accurate.

Is the temp being displayed, for inside or outside the vehicle?
The reason i ask is because a sensor probably needs replacing, but is it for in the vehicle or outside?

Thanks in advance for any help.

The smaller number is the outside ambient temperature.

The Larger numbers are 'Comfort Levels' whilst the system tries to achieve an internal temperature close to these figures, they are to be considered Comfort Levels only.

On That point how often do we have to recharge the car's air con with refrigerant? It will of course depends of your usage but on average?

The temp display is outside temp but is also used for temp control I believe. Check the little fan above the clock is not bunged up with fluff as that samples the cabin temp. Put the system on manual and drop the temperature to Low, if it still doesn't get cold, get the gas checked.

I always thought AirCon should be serviced every two years...
Apart from cleaning the condensor and checking the compressor drive belt, tell me what you can service on aircon? My last 2 Jap 4 x 4's were 8 & 10 years old when I sold them, the aircon had never been touched and worked perfectly.

When I say service - I meant Gas Change....admittedly I know it would last years, but my previous Company Cars I have had, had the gas changed every two years....

Waste of time, just adding to global waste. Even my XJS never had the gas changed while I had it (3yrs)

My air con behaved the same.
It was the water temp sensor on the input to the heater matrix . It was saying the coolant was colder than it was, around freezing so the Hevac was not switching the aircon on.
20 notes from the stealer and 10 mins later ice cold air con.
Diagnosed with my Nanocom evo.

I'd heard the same as Saint.

Worth checking every few years as it has oil put in that helps protects the system. Also, the thermostatic expansion valve can sometimes stick on old cars (costs about £25 off the web) and when it does the system tends to vent leaving you with no refridgerant. Most decent places will do a dye test too if you're not sure when it was last charged.

I'll add that I speak as a man whose air-conditioning didn't appear to be functioning fully and only took half a recharge because the TXV was stuck! part in the post, as they say ...

Thanks for the replies.

I've had the Rangie 2 years now and never bothered to get the air con checked, and have no idea when it was last done.

Time to spend a few bob and get it sorted one way or another me thinks.
