I've done this job on both manual gearbox and autobox TDi 300's and I would say if yours is manual gearbox go for a cheaper solid one, if yours is autobox go for the more expensive flexy one.
Why would I say that? Because when you drive a manual gearbox car the revs go up and down with speed and gears, whereas with the autobox equipped car the revs stay much more constant and relate to pedal pressure rather than gears, at least until the 'box is in lock-up mode. As a result the consistancy of revs permits a resonance to build and you can get a bit more NVH.
The choice is yours.........................

Vibrations! In my disco Its like driving a food blender as it was!.Nah but seriously, i see no difference whatsoever, the flexi bit was buggered too and was leaking. I have not seen flexi joints before and as its not a luxury cruise car, you cant tell any difference apart from easier revving caused by cat removal

If you want to pay an extra £50 for the "flexi-bit " its up to you, but I know which one I,d go for .........
got the solid one fitted to my auto and i cant say i have felt any extra vibrations it pulls better stays in higher gears on climbs and whistles a bit more but well worth the money.
the old pipe however had some fraying of the flexi material when it came off and i wasnt convinced about fitting another especially for an extra £50ish.

i had a soild pipe fitted to my auto i had about 3 yrs ago and never noticed vibrations etc, infact after service and decat peipe and egr vale blanking kit it was like a rally car in comparison.
i think the choice is yours at the end of the day
hope this helps, as before doing mine i read a lot of these threds but after changing it never had any regrets.

Fitted a flexi to my 300tdi manual.Simply because it was easier to fit as I changed the entire exhaust and had no helper at the time.Logic would say that the give in the flexi joint would make the exhaust last longer
End of the day its a matter of choice.
