Hi , the disco i was offered , he declined my offer so i now have to fix it


Just to help me out , im asking the gurus here 2.5 diesel td5 manual box

Symptoms are .............

diff lock in N gear selector in N clutch pedal up = grinding noise no drive

diff in L or H 1st ,2nd,3rd, 5th and reverse clutch pedal up = grinding noise no drive

Diff lock L or H any gear clutch depressed , silent

Diff lock L or H 4th gear drives normally and quiet (rev it a bit to get it going )

I am starting the job tomorrow morning , i am presuming the box needs replacement . i have not checked anything at all visually yet as ive yet to get it up on some axle stands .
I have located a complete box with Transfer box and diff lock model for £350

the fact you only have 4th gear means layshaft has no drive ,usually due to teeth loss from poor or low oil

cheers fella , my mate has decided to keep it rather than ake £800 , he is paying me to do the swap over , hopefully its a straight forward job ,ive done a 300 tdi ones but not td5 's
