I have just purchased a TD5 chassis, rear tub and bulk head, as my poor old 90 just needs to much welding on the chassis.

As this chassis has the rear tank in it (much better than being slung under your seat me thinks) has any one ever piped one up to a 200 tdi set up? as the td5 has integrated pump in the tank and the piping looks like it is off the star ship enterprise.?

remove the integral sender / pump from the tank and buy a replacement from ebay for a 300tdi (about 17 quid) - this is just a sender unit. Then you just have a supply and return pipe. Sell the TD5 one - should get good money for it.

While you're at it, why not fit the underseat tank too and have a bigger range or the option of a seperate vegetable oil tank...

Tis exactly what I've done - old 2.5TD, TD5 chassis (actually TD5 rear, TD front), td5 rear tank, under seat tank and switching heated veg oil system. Can take photos as the body is currently off for painting if you're interested..

Here's the view from the rear of chassis, TD5 tank nearest, underseat tank in distance. In my case I have one fuel pipe from the Td5 (as I have no return to the diesel) and two wires for the sender. You'd have an additional return pipe. I'm still waiting on the socket for the end of the wires (6 weeks) so get one ordered if you don't have one!!

I got a heavier duty rear tank cradle while I was at it - £70 galvanised from simmonites.
Also get some closed cell adhesive foam on a roll to stick under and over your tank to hold it nicely in place - I was surprised theres no strap - it's just held between the cradle and tub by the weight of the tub..

My diesel supply line is yellow and veg oil supply is green just cos I fancied it. Return fuel line goes back to my side tank as its the veggy tank. As for wiring, I ran new two core in flexi conduit to the rear tank but then found out there is a rear tank connector in the standard loom anyway. For the front tank I just reused the original wires.
I fitted a second fuel gauge with leds that light up depending what tank is in use - even found a genuine landy sticker for twin tanks. Under the dash you'll see a light switch - I used this to switch tanks as its on-off-on which suited me. All looks quite standard though, so chuffed.


don't know if these are any use to you - but its definately a worthwhile conversion whilst yer landy is in bits and at 56p a litre cheaper to run.

you say there is no strap to hold the tank down??? just the body?

for got to ask what hold the tub on the rear cross member as my rear cross member has no ears to bolt the tub too

also what is the black bracket for on the top if the chassis to the right of the fuel tank? i have one in the same place is there meant to be 2 on on either side?

I've no idea about the disco sender - I used a WQB100430, "fuel sender tank mounted tdi 90" new for 17 quid inc carriage - they all look pretty much the same but some are longer / shorter and may not fit.

You seem to get a lot in spurts - had a quick look and couldn't see any.

Aye, there are no straps which I thought was bizzare, until I slowly laid the body down - then the ribs on the tub sit exactly either side of the raised section on the tank. you just move the tank about until it fits snugly with the tub down - the foam helps it sit snugger, plus stops abrasion when in use. I suppose you could use a strap too but I haven't.

The Td5 rear chassis has no tabs for the rear tub - instead you have to buy a long removeable bracket KVU101160 (20 quid or so), which bolts onto the crossmember and gives you a little more adjustment when it comes to building up the body (which is a godsend). It's also a nice bracket to tuck the rear wiring and anti-spill breather against. Also when you come to fit that long bracket, don't go getting worried about your rear crossmember being damaged - all td5 rear crossmembers are banana shaped, alarmingly so.

That funny bracket is to protect the tank filler breather from the tub - to stop it pinching if theres any body flex, or when moving tub. I had no idea either and the holes on the other side suggest fillers on other side for overseas markets?? no idea.

Just noticed you can sort of see the long black rear bracket - the kitchen roll and the clear anti-spill breather tube set it off - you can make out two of the captive nuts that take the bolts that fix the rear of the tub

How have you got around the foam bump stops for the tank to the chassis?

Also what have you used for fuel lines???

Hi James - I got a roll of 6mm thick 50mm wide closed-cell self-adhesive foam from I think it was Vehicle Wiring Products and used it under the tank where the tank meets the cradle and on top of the tank where it meets the tub underside and tub strenghening ribs. You can see it in the photo above.

For fuel lines I bought 10mm OD 8mm ID nylon fuel lines, with yellow for diesel and green for veggy. This runs to the fuel filters. then its 8mm OD 6mm ID elsewhere. Bought 30m reels of the stuff off ebay and have used the 8mm/6mm stuff everywhere for extended breathers as well.
