Hi all, had a bit of bad luck today, noticed a small pool of PS fluid under my Discovery, on checking it seems the bottom pipe off the bottle/resevoir has been rubbing against the engine and has worn the metal part of the pipe through allowing fluid to escape.

I'm just guessing but knowing my luck this will be the high pressure side of the circuit? I've repaired the low pressure side of these in the past by cutting out the split metal and replacing it with rubber hose, but if this is the high pressure side is that option out of the question?

I'd really appreciate any suggestion and help please, if I have to replace the entire hose is it a huge job? It looks quite difficult to get to the end that doesn't attach to the bottle, if I contort myself I can feel some flats like a nut end on the pipe, would I have to remove lots to get to this to replace the pipe?

Many thanks for any help, it is appreciated!

Has anyone ever tackled this-picking the pipe up tomorrow...Im guessing its grille removal but cant find any info on this job on here or on RAVE????

Yep done it a few months ago, found it whilst doing the oil pump bolt, mine was VERY close to wearing through, its less than £20 and takes no more that 20 mins to fit.

A few piccys in that write up here.

www.discovery2.co.uk / TD5 "Famous" Oil Pump Bolt

I also fitted a jubilee clip at the pump end as the springy ones allow the pipe to rotate on the bottom of the pump and contact the sump again. A simple P clip to support the pipe would have stopped it ever happening........... If you remove the Air box, it gives a lot more room to tackle the job.

I would HIGHLY advise everyone with a TD5 check this pipe for clearance......!!! couple more piccys below

what about the hose to the box...did you do that one too?
attempted mine today but far to cold!

No m8, I only noticed it tbh because I was underneath removing the sump to look at the pump bolt, It was not going to be long before my pipe went I know that much!!

Hello,
No more 20 min to fit it ?
Are you far from Brittany (Rennes) ? I 'm quite interested in showing me :)
Only removing Air box is enough to have access to the extremity in the pump ?
I tried today, and no success !
Thanks for your help,
Franck .
