Hi all, have tracked my leak to the pipe that is at the higher level from the Power Steering fluid bottle, it has been rubbing against the intercooler pipe just above the chassis rail and has worn through enough to start weeping (me too!)

Is the replacement of this pipe a DIY job or am I best trusting it to the experts? Am reasonably competent with the spanners.

If anyone has a diagram of that area showing where the pipes actually go or can help in anyway then I would be very very grateful.

The 2 power steering pipes ( flow and return ) go across under the radiator and are clipped to the crossmember in two places .
I would say that to change the pipes you would have to remove the radiator/intercooler assembley as they run in a confined space under the rad .
I change my rad recently and noticed that both pipes were quite rusty so I cleaned them up and coated them with grease as a temporary measure intending to do a better job when I would have more time during the summer .
However the DMF gave up and I'm now in the process of removing the engine to do clutch etc so I will probably clean them up properly this time .
I could take a pic or two if it helps - and if I can upload them .
 
Well it was a bit easier than removing the pipes completely, as it was only the low pressure side I thought it would probably be ok to simply remove the piece of pipe that worn through and replace the section with some rubber high pressure hose, job took about an hour in the end, it was a bit nerve racking cutting the pipe though and watching power steering fluid go everywhere all over my drive .......... :eek: Had cardboard down ready though so that was ok.

Pipe is now replaced with short piece of rubber pipe and all seems fine.

Photo shows the removed section with offending hole.
