insert a piece of tube between the inlet pipe and the outlet pipe simple but why would you want to its there for a reason.
 
I know its quit expensive the bloody thing but without it u'll shorten the life of the engine, albeit is called "cooler" it has another function too :
Coolant flow circulates through the oil cooler housing under pressure from the coolant pump and distributes the flow evenly around the matrix fins and then along the block into three core holes for cylinder cooling.(RAVE)

My advice is to muster up your courage;) and replace it if it's faulty.
