Hi folks,

Having some issues with the TD5. During a journey it simply loses all power for a few seconds.
Connected the scanner and below is what comes up from engine management.
I'm not fussed about the EGR valve, as that's been blanked off. I was getting this problem before i blanked it off, so that can get ruled out. The top 2 codes won't delete, where as bottom 2 delete ok but come back after a 10 min journey.

I'll just get my binoculars so i can see it, :D
 
check the red ecu plug for oil ingress it often throws up the faults, cant help with abs though, if oil present injector loom needs replacing

Hi Sam

I'm guessing that your landy doesn't have aircon which is why you have the aircon open load fault.

The egr valve fault will be because you have blocked off the egr valve.

having 2 injector faults would lead me to believe that there is a high probability that you have oil contamination to the injector wiring loom. Pull the red plug off the ecu and see if it has any sign of oi in it.

Shuttle valve open load is also a common fault. It is usually the wiring between the multiplug and switch pack rather than the switch itself that goes open load.

Ok i've not had a chance to check the loom.
But if there is oil in the plug, where do i get another loom from? Dealers? Ebay? Scrappies?

I have quite a few faults developing over the last week or so, and they all seem to common issues, wipers only working on constant and fast speed, both rear door locks not opening when unlocking.
These smaller issues i can live with as the wifey can still potter about with the kids without breaking down.

The injector loom can be bought from main dealer, ebay local landy independent etc. They are usually about £35-£45. You will need to flush out the rest of the loom too.

The wipers losing intermitent is likely to be the intermitent/delay relay playing up. They can often get water in em and since it's been raining heavily that'd be my first port of call.
 
Wee update....

I have now changed the injector harness.
Although the engine feels a lot smoother when driving, the initial problem of losing power is still there!

The two lights that come on when i lose all power for a few seconds are: the engine management light and the water in fuel light.
My next two steps are as follows, one fit a new earth strap (reason below), and two drain the tank and replace it with higher octane diesel (in case there is water in tank).

If anyone has any other ideas please let me know.

Reason for earth strap:

When i initially bought the TD5, i changed the full front end to the facelift model. The Disco came to us as a rough runner, we found an earth strap off below the ECU. and the wiring in general being all over the place. Which makes me think it might be an issue with the earthing again.
 
The loom that feeds the water in fuel sensor also goes to the fuel pump. ISTR someone finding that the loom had been rubbing somewhere and shorted out.

1. Dont bother with that water in fuel warning ... its too sensitive, and the water is sedimented in the bottom of the filter...drain it there and that's all

2. If the MIL came on check the plugs/wiring at the crank sensor and at the throtle position sensor... these are triggering the MIL if something's wrong and u lose power aswell ... wont hurt to plug in a tester again

3. The earth "reinforcement" ideea is very good especially if u have doubts about it and make sure the earth to the ECM is perfect cos losing earth there even for short time could lead to ECU failure.

Cheers mate!

I have emptied the tank, the fuel i pulled was absolutely disgusting...as if there was fungus in the tank.

Got new filter on filled with diesel conditioner, just went and got a 20ltr can filled with V-power diesel from Shell.
So hopefully tomorrow that will go into tank. Cleaned the tank right out today as well as all the fuel lines.

Will keep updating...
 
Apologies for bumping this up again...

Update:

After weeks of trying so many things and problem solving, finally got to the bottom of it.

With the help of the brains of a work colleague and his ways/methods of diagnostics, we found out that we had an electrical issue.

Two relays were faulty. The fuel pump relay and the Engine Control relay. So replaced both relays at the start of the week and have since then clocked up around 200 miles. And it has drove absolutely amazing!
I am extremely glad to have gotten to the bottom of this saga! Was close to putting the Disco up on Ebay lol.

Many thanks to all the lads for the replies and helpul advice.
