How many is too many? Looking at buying a TD5 Disco, an early one, and it has well documented dealer history, but has starship miles.

So is 100k too high? 200k? 250k?

Where would you draw the line......

I'd never trust any service history. Full stop.

As long as it`s been looked after & well serviced miles dont matter a diesel will go on for a good 500`000 miles before it need any mojor work

Land rovers do not have an expiry mileage. They are so cheap to repair compared to other brands (except the new models, boo) that they never become totally uneconomical to repair unless completely rusted away.

As such, buy one with 300k on it. You'll be giving a grand for it maximum, so if it needs a gearbox it's no big deal. BUT the chances are the box has already been changed. Land rovers get stripped and rebuilt so often that it is not always the case that the components under the vehicle have covered the mileage indicated on the clock.

Just buy one and crack on using it, expect the repairs cos they can come thick and fast, but relax in the knowledge that although you might want to change your car in the future, with your repaired land rover its unlikely that you'll actually ever need to!

i've just brought a 2001 es model its done 92k with full service history!
First thing i did was change all the fluids, nothing like doing it yourself peace of mind...
Just got the brakes to do now!

You can buy service stamps off flea bay.. i asked on hear what to look for and got some good pointers, checked the oil and water ect... but basicly had a shuffle about under the car make sure everything looked as it should and checked for any nasty smoke on start up and after a run...

So far so good! famous last words... still cant get used to the auto box thou sounds like its holding the gears a bit long for my liking...

theres quite a bit on the forum about the auto`s holding on to the gears for too long.
it does`nt appear to be a problem with the box, just the way it is

I think it depends on the price. Personally I'd try and get the lowest miles for my money. I wouldn't impulse buy just because you may have seen something that looks pretty, albeit with high mileage at an above average price.
