Hi Guys
My first post here, so here goes:
Checked the coolant level as it seems to be vanishing on a regular basis. (No apparent leaks anywhere)
The checked the oil level, and found clear signs of coolant on the dipstick.
I have had no:
gurgling noises
overheating
blowing out of the expansion tank
loss of power
what else?

Any advice will be appreciated.

sounds like head gasket has gone between an oil way and a water way.

Hi
Does this mean a new head as well? (I know some have there heads re-done)
Or just a new gasket? (sure this has been asked before, but just to check for my peace of mind or be prepared for
stress levels)
Regards

Hi Shifty
Was hoping you would read this as well. Have been collecting your postings: Do I need a head?

Agreed with above, - the only way to find out is to remove the head. Sounds like a simple gasket problem to me, but could be a crack in the head between a water way and oil way. Take/get it taken off and have agood look at the head, clean off the old gasket completly and if the head looks ok on the surface then it should be fine to refit it

What more could I say? Check head gasket first as it is by far the cheapest option to fix. You'll only need a new/reconditioned head if the gasket is OK with no signs of leakage. Have you overheated the engine at all? TD5s dont like running hot.

Hi Guys
Thanks for the advice. I am VERY careful not to overheat. Will keep you informed
All the best for 2010!

Hi Guys
Just an update from me: I decided to check the Oil Cooler before I haul the Head off.
What is clear is that the O-rings where the radiator attaches to the outer casing is brittle and shot. So when the oil pressure drops when you switch the engine off, the coolant gets sucked into the oil passages.
My question: where do I get those O rings from? They have to be Glycol and Oil resistant and obviously be able to handle pressure.
Any advice will be appreciated
Regards
