what year is your td5? it's more common with pre-2002 models but as with any vehicle it has to fail sometime.
I think there's a great deal of paranoia on this site about TD5's and disco's in general. Given the number of members/guests using this facility the number of times problems arise with these vehicles is no better or worse than any other. Having said that my 1999 TD5 105K has had a fuel pressure regulator (now modified by LR) and a water pump. No headgasket problems as yet.
Incidentally the repair kit for the FP regulator is liable not to work and better to go for the new modified one straight away.

Mine is a 2001 and I'm really impressed with it so far, my point is what percentage of vehicles have the dreaded Head gasket fault, or fuel pressure regulator etc. Does anyone know the real statistics or as Nigel1943 says do we only hear about the problems so don't get a true overall picture? Is there a list of likely faults to expect and at what mileages? Maybe a online survey would be would be a good idea?

there are td5s on 220+k it all depends on how you drive them, where, etc Servicings a big one. fuel pumps, fuel pressure regs, radiators are all consumable items im afraid on a td5
My mate runs a 300 tdi comercial 110, 330k on the old girl, she gets warmed up....ragged all day long pulling cable trailers about, then cooled down,parked up. but VERY meticulous servicing.

There a landrover!! they always go wrong, that's why this site was invented!
they are like a women, good and bad!! some have no problems, some are always a problem!
always blowing a gasket, least on the Td5 you can fix it, when it does happen,
the percentage of head gasket failures is minumal, other things wil test you first,
as TIG UP says meticulous servicing and depends on how you drive them,
