Further to previous thread on this issue, could do with some guidance. Had starting woes on TD5 110 Defender. Eventually proved to be fuel pump. Original pump was noisy and lots of gunk in tank. Sourced a new pump on Ebay, £100 mark, installed but still very reluctant to start. After trying many other components eventually replaced it with the old pump, which while still noisy, fired up right after the purge sequence. Got replacement pump from supplier after a couple of weeks and installed today. Went through the purge and started OK. Great! problem solved -NOT. Got 4 miles to town on country lane and lost all power, would not restart. SOS to daughter to retrieve old pump and re-installed at roadside. Started again and is still going reliably albeit a bit noisy.
My question is is there a difference between these pumps sold on Ebay at £100 different to others there at the £250 -£300 mark? and if I do spend that extra on these pumps, how can I be sure they will be any better?
