Hi took my 1999 td5 auto for its mot, on the smoke test it did not read anything, the tester did the test twice and nothing at all, I no the garage well and do favours for each other, they borrowed my car to tow a car , they said it seems low on power, when you put your foot down you can here the turbo start to whistle just under 2000 rpm then it seems to stop, just wondered if this was right, I've checked all turbo hoses they seem ok, the turbo seems to be free, and the control valve is opperaing, when refitting the one turbo hose the clip would not tighten enough, so use car to go and get another and the pipe came off on the way, the car obviously had very little power, but no warning light came on, I would of thought the map sensor would cause a fault code, is this right, thanks phil

My guess is the whistle disappears after about 2k because the turbo is spinning too fast for the whistle to be audible by the human ear ;)

The TD5 is a very clean burning engine - has yours still got the EGR valve fitted? When the garage says it seemed low on power, did they get any faults coming up with a diagnostic - if they didn't plug one in, then why not? :( another favour.

EDIT - if a turbo hose comes off, then yep, no turbo boost = no power! :D

Hi yes cars got k&n air filter, egr removal kit, and middle box removal, the plugged a data log on it for a few days, does not show any faults, since I've owned the car it's always been the same power wise, but my disco before was a 4.6 v8 so I can not compare the two
