Hi,

Changed my fuel filter yesterday but ever since then it's having trouble starting,

I know after I first put it in I had to wait for the fuel filter to fill up while the engine was priming . So then it started fine . But now everytime I start the car I have to put it to ignition 2 for about 30 seconds before it will start!

I can hear the fuel pump going
I though it was only gonna happen the first time while the fuel filter fills with fuel! But it's every time now,

Any ideas???

on the fuel filter is a pressure switch , sounds like you might be loosing prime , recheck tightness of all connections /fuel filter, although they are push in o rings can perished

Thanks will disconnect and reconnect everything again.

Another things is that since yeasterday I can hear that under bonnet fuel pump going all the time.
Would this be another symptom of loosing prime?

could still have air in the fuel system .......???

should auto bleed but could be taking its time

That's what I'm thinking, I'm going to take it all apart and manually full the filter then make sure there is tight connections on all the pipes😓

Quick update,
I undid the fuel filter and used the outlet pipe from the fuel lift pump to fill it up with diesel, then put it all back together,
I tried starting a few times and it seems to work perfectly!

I'll leave it for a bit now and will let you know what happens when I try go out later!

Thanks for all ur help!

Seemed better at first !
Now still doing the same thing!
Not what I need right now as I need to drive from Essex to Yorkshire on the weekend.

And other ideas would be helpful? Could a faulty pump cause this?

most probably its the pump, ,to test you can disconnect the outlet before it goes into the filter, and test its output, into a suitable container, it should not make too much of a noise, and if its done over 100k might be time to change it anyways , i replaced mine a few months ago , seems to run so much better now (£110 ebay origanal spec)

good luck

I disconnected it as you said and it wasn't too bad, it spluttered a few times but not sure if that's normal

Update:

All sorted! Apparently the fuel system only auto bleeds while the engine is cranking!
So not when the pump is priming or when the engine is running,

So after a few 10 second cranks the car now start B-E-A-U-tifully!!!

Thanks for all your help guys!
