Hi , today i thought i would check the crankcase breather filter and give the egr valve a bit of a clean , after re assembling everything the car wouldnt start. it hasnt been used since monday when it was running fine , no problem starting or any signs of smoke , i checked that i had put the fuel return pipes back on properly on the injectors and i couldnt see any loose wires , i have read on hear that it could be the fuel pump , i removed one of the return pipes from an injector and turned the engine over for a good 10 seconds and there was no deisel on the tissue i wrapped round the return pipe . I am hoping i have not caused this problem , does anyone have any suggestions please .

Well I reckon you must have disconnected something. The chances that a fuel pump or anything else fail co-incidentally is too much to believe - not impossible, but highly unlikely.

We need some more info - year / miles etc. :confused:

You cleaned the EGR - do you have 3 turbo hoses? - or 2? - did you take or perhaps unknowingly knock the cables/connectors off any sensors?

Did you check the hoses for splits especially the 90 degree one at the EGR?

I think you need to go back over the entire job and check what may be displaced.
 
Hi all the hoses were fine and i will go over the job again tomorrow , the only other thing i forgot to mention was that i replaced the turbo vent filter with an original from a l/r dealer, i noticed that the filter is only connected to one pipe withe the other end loose , is this correct? the car is a 53 plate td4 with 95000 miles .

Your right - one end open as its a vent.

Did you have the ducting from the air intake to the air filter off - there are at least 2 sensors under there which may have been disturbed.

Like mine, yours will probably have a sensor on the black duct between two of the turbo hoses - did you clean the sensor out - there is usually quite a bit of oil collected in that piece of plastic pipework. Beware - the connector to the sensor is fragile.
 
if a sensor had become disconnected or broken would the engine management light not come on in the dash to say there was a problem ?
 
just a thought, have you tried resetting the fuel cut off switch. It may be you have knocked it when doing the work.
 
you definitly have one on the right hand side at the back I think it is red in colour without going and looking
 
found it , that is only a reset button it doesnt turn the fuel off if you press it , it only resets the fuel after a collision .

I agree - but the damn thing can jump up at other times too. :(

Mine did when I first switched on after changing the fuel pump - took ages to find what had happened. :confused: :mad:

I eventually pressed it - and it clicked and stayed down. :D
 
Latest update is the garage i bought it from had it recovered today and it is the high pressure fuel pump gone , so they are replacing it tomorrow . Thanks to Ansett automotive in cheddington ! Theres me thinking i had done something wrong !
 
Hi Chaser , they said they popped the return pipe off the top of the injectors and turned the engine over and no fuel came out , is that a sign of the l/p pump then ?
 
It's very rare for a Hp pump to fail, especially without any previous symptoms.
If the regulator seal fails it normally gives poor starts first.

No fuel will come out if the Hp pump doesn't have a supply from the Lp pump will it.

To confirm an Lp supply take the supply pipe off the Hp pump and turn on ignition.
