Hi all my 2002 td4 is driving me insaine right what its doing is losing power every so often what happens is it will lose power and the diesel rattle from one day to another no patern just when the rattle goes so does the power I will park up come back and its ok most of the time pumps are ok all engine mods done well maintained its done 160000 miles any advice would be most welcome thanks ryan
 
Bit more info thought I'd cured it when I replaced the vac pipe from the actuator to the turbo several months ago but its back! I don't get any warning lights up and it doesn't smoke more than usual. when it first ever did it I changed the maf and fitted a ronbox and its still ongoing not sure what to try next its deffo electrical I think!!!!!
 
had a similar situation,driving along and then all of a sudden lack of power, took ages to get up to 50, would park up and next time it would run fine , it turned out to be the inline fuel pump,(2001 td4 120k miles so i guess it was due to be replaced)
£110 for replacement, runs great now

do you know the history of your fuel pumps
 
Morning mate went through a bad batch of pumps about two years ago they wasn't lasting a year! So changed suplier and touch wood its been ok so I'm a bit stuck on what to do next. Would the wiring on the fuel rail sensor cause this kind of trouble?
 
Hi,

When my fuel pressure sensor harness was on its way out, the symptoms i got was an occasional rattle and loss of power (plus smoke out the back).

You can easily test if the harness / connector is worn - just unplug the connector at the end of the fuel rail, give it a good clean with a contact cleaner and plug it back in.

If it solves your problem you know its the harness and / or sensor.... :D
 
Cheers bud I'll give it a go I believe there is a harness upgrade any ideas on part number or discription and where to get one from? Just in case and why update it what was the problem? Sorry for all the questions on a friday :5bbanghead:

well its not ok now :( hence why im suggesting you have a pump issue, dont discount it cause yours are only 2 years old,,
 
Going to get it on the ramp tomorrow if I've time to dive in to it and have a look any pointers bud as time is the issue!
 
when was the last time you changed the fuel filter?,
the inline fuel pump can stick, so you can have intermittent faults for a long time before you bottom the problem, i have had my freelander over 8 year, so getting to know it quite well now

fuel rail sensor wiring is worth checking
 
It gets spoilt gets full engine service every 6 months and all filters so its not down to neglect its been a great tool for the last 6 1/2 years so gets looked after just this minor set back to sort out
 
im with you on that Ryan, i spoil mine too, but there is always something failing or causing a problem, life would be boring if it was too easy,

another though is the turbo waste gate actuator arm, make sure its free to move, if this sticks , you will get poor acceleration and lack of power
 
Yeah checked it a while back moves fine can hear turbo spooling well. running out of ideas bud may get time tomorrow to get it on the ramp and check a few things!
 
Cheers bud ill check the pumps again don't take to long done it enough times! Its ran great all day sods law I'll let you know if I find owt wrong
 
Hi all its running fine still just in case I've cleaned all the connections engine related just have to see if its cured! Anyone know the part number or the best place to get a loom update for the fuel rail just in case it is shot !!! Cheers. Ryan
