hi ,I am going to atempt to change my crankcase breather filter for the first time on my 55 freelander part No LLJ 500010 the haynes manual omits this filters replacement i would gratefull if any member could spare the time to enlighten me on the replacement of this part is it straightforward ? thanks IJ

Very easy.Remove engine cover and two injector electrical connectors for access.
Replace with the BMW centrifuge type separator, part no. 11 127 799 367 (approx £20)from a BMW dealer. Do not waste time with the filter type replacement from LR

just be careful of the fuel pipes for the injectors, don't overstress the plastic t-pieces as they are not available separately.

it took me about an hour 1st time, and I was being very careful.

Agree with Vic, engine cover off, remove the fuel rail and the return feed pipes for the injectors - carefully though, lift them vertically with a pair of long nose pliers after removing the retaining clips, then it is just a case of undoing the cover for the crankcase breather - 4 screws/bolts. i changed mine using the bmw part number above, it came with the replacement seals, no idea if it did work though! just take your time and only replace one seal at a time so that you are sure where you are.

in true Haynes style refitting is the reverse of removing!, in my haynes manual it is in but it fails to mention the fuel rail and the return pipes on the injectors...

Thanx for the prompt replies. I have noted advice given, I had already purchased the LR part at a cost of £24.33 + vat. but next year I will be getting the BMW part.
I will keep you informed of my progress!

Thanx to Vic Middleton, Optimus Prime and Fake Elvis. I managed to change the crankcase breather filter on Sunday. Following the advice and tips given, I also changed the turbo booost control solenoid air filter. Both filters looked as though they had not been changed before. I will be changing the crankcase breather filter with the BMW mod. before the rise in V.A.T.! Thanx again I.J.

Changed out my filter for the BMW upgrade this weekend,

With care - didn't have to remove return pipes or connectors - just the wire carrier tray.
The old filter was sopping in black oil

and the turbo filter looks like a plastic fuel filter and hangs open ended at the rear of the engine
