Hi
I recently bought an 05 freelander td4 auto hse. It has 110000 on clock. I'm worried that it won't go into 5th gear and am looking for some advice. When I push the stick over into the sport mode and use the triptronic up and down it will not seem to go to 5th on the little screen in the dash is this a common fault or am I been stupid.

Any info would be massively appreciated.

It'll only go into 5th over 45 Mph.

Ahhh will try that next time will it go in on the triptronic setting? It seems to not be very good on diesel and was worried that's why but I'm guessing that's just something I'll have time get used to haha

if it is bad on diesel then look for any signs of a leaking high pressure pump on your engine , I have just had mine done and what a difference .

What sort of signs am I looking for. When you say you've had yours done what is it that you've had done because I'm sure it should be better than it is

How bad is bad? Mine averages about 30 Mpg on my daily commute. This is on Cornish hilly B roads with a 2 Mile blast on the duel carriageway.
I use auto D most of the time. I also have a Synergy set on 8 with a replacement MAF.

I had the pump over hauled it cost me £200 as with my bad hands I could not do it myself , what I was getting was diesel dripping onto the floor when the under engine protector was taken off it was covered in a grease like so I knew it had been leaking a long time but what happened when it was cold it is worse until it warms up , on the road there was a large pool of diesel at first I thought it was oil and panicked but I saw some clear and smelt it and immediately knew it was diesel and as my son in law is very busy at the moment I took it up to a friend who owns a garage and I always pay cash to him . now it runs better as before it was a bit rough when first starting up and it goes a bit faster now.

Auto box programming is controlled by the TCM, and this will always protect the gearbox. Generally it won't allow you to change up if your below approx 2000rpm- 2250rpm or if your on an incline it will hold off changing til 2500rpm-3000rpm controlled by the G sensor below and behind the handbrake handle.
Also when in D mode, check it says D and not 4, this would show a cable out of alignment.
And lastly, when was the ATF fluid last changed in the box?
