Would it not be easier to fit a k and n replacement filter element rather than a induction kit?

Yes, but I already have an unused cone filter.
I tried to get the airbox cover off earlier but there was something stopping it from pulling out and it started ****ing down with rain so I stopped what I was doing. I had removed 3 bolts, one of which was on the N/S but I just couldn't get to whatever it was that kept holding it in place. I assume there is another bolt hidden behind somewhere?
Please see the attachment included. That shows what I had planned to do. The current panel filter would have been removed from the airbox completely. I am starting to question whether or not my planned air filtration setup would have been viable. In the attached pic, I included a few question marks. I assume that there is a hot air intake here? If so, would my planned setup be a problem considering the hot air would bypass the filter altogether? I am a bit of a novice so don't bite!

Just watch the oil used in the cone filters & especially K&N doesn't clog up your MAF which is already prone to failure. Even K&N preoiled at the factory have given some people trouble, though K&N will always try to blame owners for overdoing it when reoiling after cleaning.

Not sure, have been looking at that and ways to shield it from warmer air. I only changed it because the old filter needed replacing and I already had the cone filter.
Part of the original air duct to the wheel arch can be seen below the air filter. I will assume this will still help by providing air flow? I've noticed that many cars with aftermarket air filters do not have this.
The car now feels more responsive but I've yet to test it for a prolonged period while the engine is at normal operating temperature.

do not oil it.......get a panel replacement and whack it straight in.better performance then cone.
cones are only good if you have a brilliant cold air feed.

yes. used it on my v6(suffer from maf oil probs)
didnt oil it up..... straight in and no probs.

Me too, when I put my new K&N in I got MAF problems after a couple of weeks, when I now clean the filter I re-oil it with dry oil
(just show the can to the filter so to speak) and things remain ok.

Like you, I'll probably get a panel filter myself & immediately clean it & not oil it at all. It seems to be a very common problem with K&N & they sell most filters preoiled.

This might sound stupid but when u say clean it do you use water? How long can you clean and re use a k and n?
