how do i replace tappets on my 90, its a g reg 2.5 td engine? cheers

do you mean the cam followers under the pushrods? if so is a head off job. they are in 3 pieces, the brass follower, a roller and the guide. once the head is off they all have one bolt holding them in place usually with some locking wire through them. just pull them out and replace them.

have you tried just adjusting the valve clearance?

it aint cheap tho

no ive not tried adjusting them yet, only had defender for week, they are making rattling noise, the guy i bought it off was told buy a lanny mechanic that couple of tappets could do with changing, but its not really neccersary, any suggestions whether to change them or not then? this is my 1st defender so im pretty clueless

personally i wouldnt throw money at a td. check the clearances and leave it at that. they dont wear that bad anyway. when i rebuilt my tdi i think it was £70 for all the bits. then the head gasket etc

kk mate as long as it wont damage out, il jus turn my radio up bit louder haha
