Asked a while ago about tappet spaces for a 2.5, 0.025 was the quoted figure, any way adjusted em, and now have oil blowing from the dipstick tube, with the dipstick in place....

Still getting pressure at the breather, engine runs quieter....

But what is wrong???
 
0.025 inches I think mate - 25 thou in old money ;)

Argh, yes 0. was an error!

So yes 9.85 or something, 10thou in round numbers. The point is, if he has done his clearances to 25 thou, they are wrong, I assume he meant mm because it should be 0.25mm, if he meant thou it would be 10 thou...
 
Ah.......

Guess they were too tight, maybe not quite closing properly, allowing back pressure....

Fingers crossed no damage to valves or pistons, or yet another strip and rebuild...




Now I'm gettin confused here...
What exactly are the correct gaps in mm and thou...
 
On one off my owld Tritons I used to do em finger tight then back em of a gnats cock hair with the engine hot and it ran as sweet as a nut. Thing is I was either double rock hard then or didn't mind burnt fingers.

Valve clearances are

10J, 12J &19J engines 0.25mm or as far as tappets are concerned 0.010" (ten thou).
200TDi & 300TDi engines 0.2mm or as far as tappets are concerned 0.008" (eight thou).

oh that eggplanes it then.. thank you mr grunt fer that lurverly bit of in****e to the workings of his infernal combusting injun. it probably has to do with amission control and other stuff that david bowie sings abart.
must be some kinda erg valve or summin or maybe a fuel pre heater system incoperating a blow by sprocket ring seporater waffle plate
 
fook they'll be a spate of mot failures now.. tappets need tightning as yer emission levels are too high
