Right, I'm **** at adjusting tappets, takes me forever and I do like to make sure they are set correctly.

Anybody used one of these?

And if so are they worth the money?

They claim that you dont need feeler gauges dont know how that would work?

Anyway just thought I'd ask if anyone had any experience with them cos if they are as good as all that they may make a handy addition to my toolbox:)

got one sittin in the drawer in me garage - aint used it for years. yer welcome to borrow.
 
Not got a special tool for doing tappets but you can borrow me ignition points adjusting tools if that'll help :D

as I got me rockers of, coz i had 4 bent push rods,
i was going to put it all back on today/tomorra if its not raining.
but, I went through my old engineering tool box yesterday and found a selection of "clocks" (dial test indicators)..ironically so named DTI`s
I will use these/this to set rocker clearances (tappets) as my old disco doosals done nigh on 190.000, so clocking the movement will allow for "wear" = running clearances = hopefully..
Or am I being a fekking eediot trewey, and just find me feelers?
 
never used them but secret is to only adjust when opposite number has just reached fully open and not to go back if you go to far and just get feeler stiff but easy to slide,but every handy device ive bought as been worse than conventional way

Cheers James, I'll probably end up doing it the conventional way but get sooo fooking irritated doing it anything to save me a bit of work :D

It isn't really rocket science, and certainly doesn't require expensive gimicky tools.

Spanner, screwdriver, and a set of decent feeler gauges is the best way of doing it.

Infact a decent set of feeler gauges is invaluable in many instances. It still amazes me how many people ever bother with feeler gauges and torque wrenches. Manufacturer reference clearance tolerances and torque figures are specified for a good reason.
 
yup - i got one - I think Bustersbus has as well - they is ok - possibly better than feeler guages as it can allow for wear. the reason they say yu dont need feeler guages is every click on the rotary knob equates to (say) 0.5thou, so yu wind it down , on the correct tappit of course, until it closes the gap completely and then back off so many clicks to get the correct clearance. tiz easy. Mind yu i aint done tappets for donkeys yonks.
 
i think it would take longer than feeler guage ,put £40 toward battery gun fund,much the most important tool
 
it is exceptionally quick, James, when yu get used to it, as yu dont need separate screwdriver, spanner and feeler gauges, but there is a knack to it.
