have you tried it again ,did you get warning lights up ,sounds like you were in limp home mode and stuck in 3rd gear ,sometimes low battery level or moving gear selector while starting plus gliches can cause it and it not be an issue again for a good while ,

i havent tried it yet was going to try again later tonight when less traffic about.
i did fit a new gear selector on it last year as it wouldnt start and traced it back to that the old one had fallen apart, i did check to see if that was tight and doesnt appear to have moved, but was wondering about readjusting it in case.

check what lights come on if it still does it ,and if selector lights and dash display all correspond correctly
have been looking at it i get all normal dash lights starts on the button fine but still wont rev above 3000 rpm or go above 30 mph.
have checked the gear selector i get the correct gear displayed on the dashboard and the light on the gear stick ?? so that part seems to be working correctly, this is a little confusing

you probably need to get fault codes read ,cleared and read again,put your location up perhaps someone may be near you with diagnostic kit
