Swivel housings are leaking oil on my 1986 Ninety.

I seem to remember hearing about two different sizes of swivel housing seals.

Is FTC3401 the right part no. for my Ninety?

I believe I also need a gasket for the cover plate, does anyone have the part no. for this?

Cheers. (And please let me know if I've missed any seals or parts I will need)

i would replace the swivels and bearings along with pins etc..

get a kit you just need the axle number to id the type.....

ftc3401 is the seal it supercedes earlier one anyway ,you wont need to change or even remove bottom pin ,it doesnt wear and doesnt interfere with the job,frc4206 is gasket for seal retainer, your going to need all the bits to strip back to chrome ball ie drive member gasket frc3988,wheel bearing nut tab washer217353,stub axle gasket ftc3648,chrome ball to axle case gasket ftc3646, but as said maybe a good time to get a kit for top pin/bush ,wheel bearings

Wheel bearing were done a few months ago so don't have to worry about that.

I was considering taking the whole assembly off in one piece rather than taking everything apart (I've read about some people doing this). Would you recommend this? If I did it this way I don't think I would need as many gaskets etc.

When mine leaked I drained them and replaced with 'one shot' grease... never had a problem with them and saved a few bob and a load of time.

Did the same, under £4 a tube from Paddock. No more drips.
Buster comes up trumps again.

Agreed love swivel grease a good steam clean before an mot and all is well

Only go in there if you need to

Depending on how bad they really are but yes grease in much thicker than oil

But once a year as I said earler I still had a slight weep .
So I always gave it a clean before a mot

.
Put it this way I ain't going in there if I don't need to ie bearing gone

Just had a look at the axle number.

Has prefix: 22L and suffix:B

Does this mean anything to anyone?

it will match up on the parts website at paddoks...

i fitted these with a few bolt mods to the stub axle mount plate,

i used a full seal kit and put in a mix of grease and oil to lube it,
i find the grease does get thrown about a bit and needs letting down just a bit,
no problems 2 years later still holding oil.....
