hello there while i was doing new ball joints i noticed a lot of muck (grease and dirt) around the swivel hub .it has had a leak in the past but dry now(no oil left?) but but i need to top up the swivel hubs incase they are low but no drain or level plug.how can i do this without stripping them down.

I think you should take another look, your Disco should have both I think. IIRC Land Rover deleted the drain plug on later models after the introduction of grease rather than oil in the swivels.

you cant really , to drain youd need to at least pull seal away from chrome ball and leave it for any grease to drain out ,refit and refill with the pre measured oneshot grease sachet

its a late p 1997 reg i will have another look just to make sure as for peeling back the seal could cause more problems if the seal gets damaged.will get a seal kit a give it a go.

Undo the bolts holding the seal retaining plate. if the grease is very thin simply loosening the top swivel pin bolts, will allow it to run out.
