Hi LR folkI need some advice on removing Swirl marks from the black paint work on my landy - I have tried several different waxes - with little improvement.

get the cheap fibre cloths from pound stretchers.....use a clean cloth which has no creases in but lays flat in your hand then wax in a straight line then remove same way with the fibre cloth....might have to use a mild cutting t cut like 3m finishing material first if unsuccessful.....

i used faracla compound on my bm, thats red and had loads on the bonnet too ,
applied to my buffer , came out works really well.

Super Resin Polish has a mild cutting effect. I am going to tackle my metallic red 98 model with my Porter Cable 7424 (orbital polisher) and menzerna cutting compound and top off with various polish and wax.
Bilt hamber wax is VERY good at filling swirls. I apply up and down on side panels and front to back on bumpers, bonnet roof etc. Gives a great look and is very inexpensive.

Well it's personal preference. A nice layer of tar and mud works for some.
Not me I'm afraid. I have a pampered gay 4 x 4. It was a bit neglected but I'll get it back to nice condition.
I actually see it as a challenge to remove swirls etc.
If indeed that was a serious question then washing alone CAN leave the paint and body vulnerable however if you protect it with wax regularly then it'll be sealed up nicely.

I agree - I don't mind it getting filthy but every car i have had has always been kept clean - bit anal i know.
paintwork is not so bad whats bugging me is trying to get 8 years worth of someone elses crud out of the carpets n seats and a strange wet dog sort of smell sometimes.
Its been deep extraction cleaned 3 times and each time more soup!!!!

thanks for all your comments......used the autoglym resin with microfibre cloths and it worked really well. would recommend doing this. huge improvement today. many thanks
Glad it worked. If you still have some very fine marks you could try some detailling clay - its a fine cutting material and i've seen the results on a black saab - very impressive!
think i may have cured the smell - i did a deep extraction with some pro odour killer. prob full of nasty chemicals but if it kills it who cares!
Used it in a much stronger concentration than recommended and seems to be drying fine - and clean!

I dont agree at all about the clay having fine cutting properties. Its to remove tar sap and any other crap on the paint work, it doesn't polish at all.
Super Resin Polish is great for masking (hiding the swirls) which 8 out of 10 people will be pleased about.

Just a little follow up.
Clay doesn't cut. It pulls out imperfections from the laquer. It leaves the paint smooth.
Yesterday I decided to tackle some very flat paint on my drivers side. I washed, clayed and washed again. I then attacked the paint with cutting paste (106FA) and my PC7424. This got most of the mettalic flake back, you can still see the dodgy painting but at least it's shiney!
The process was finished with polish and wax.
The FL paint is pretty easy to work with!

I would in the first place try to elimate the cause of the swirls .One probable cause is taking it through the car wash,and another dirt in the water /shamois.One thing I would never do is use T cut ,as I do believe it contains ammonia.The best results I find are using a quality polish etc .

"Farecla" products are excellent,especially the dry finishing compound.
Not cheap ,but then again you only get what you pay for.

Some bilt hamber autobalm on it. It's pretty inexpensive and gives a great result. Quite tricky to apply but once you suss it it's easy. Fills the swirls nicely too!
